Message from the Executive Director:
Well here it is summer again! This is when I switch gears from teacher to Spokane Smiles Director. I always feel so guilty wishing I did more during the school year with this group. I keep telling myself that as the kids get older, I will have more time to do that. We shall see.
Anyhow, we had a successful winter Night with the Chiefs turn out and although it was fun to watch the games, it was difficult to meet and mingle with many who showed up. We were all spread out in a section and it was hard to tell who was with our group. Sorry about that! We weren't sure what to expect our first time around with it. Thanks again to Andrea Thomas for arranging the event and standing outside in the freezing cold to hand out tickets! Our goal with this group is to create more events for our kids to attend where families can come together. If you have any connections or ideas for events during the year, please call me!
My personal goal for our group is to start having regular meet up times. I'm thinking quarterly meetings would probably work best for busy families. The months of the meetings would be July, October, January and April. These would be at a family friendly location where the kids could have some fun and we adults could talk about the direction/goals for Spokane Smiles. I'll keep you posted. A few of the members who have been around since the group's beginnings are meeting Monday, July 12 to discuss picnic ideas. I think I will claim this as our first official meeting. The next meeting will be in October. I'll send out an official invite for that as well as post it on the website.
We're gearing up for our summer picnic. The summer picnic is the FIRST SUNDAY IN AUGUST every year. We've got discounted tickets available for Splash Down this year! So, you can go have some summer swim fun prior to the picnic! It's so much fun to see how much the kids have grown and meet new families! The weather has been cooperative in the past, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that our summer weather is finally here to stay!
I have created a FaceBook page, but have not taken the time to learn how to do that compared to an individual page. If you were to search for our page you'd find it, but I'm still in the process of figuring out how it all works. I hope to know more by the time our picnic rolls around so I can let everyone know we've got an official page and we can actually communicate through it! I think it will be a fantastic way to share news and give each other encouragement!
